It's very unlikely Smeagol/Gollum got his redemption in the end. He had to seek redemption in order to get it, and he didn't even try. His only goal was to regain the Ring.
beneath it all Smeagol was trying to get out, even though his actions were not his because of the ring, in the end he deserves redemption, no soul deserves what he went trough. the tragic story of Smeagol is the most important story Tolkien teaches us. mercy, forgiveness and understanding
